HYDERABAD: Telangana is on the boil again, building pressure on the Congress to come out with a decision in favour of a separate state at a time when it is grappling with growing dissidence in the party over the style of functioning of chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.The self-immolation of a student, Lunavath Bhojya Naik, in Warangal on Saturday reignited the passion for Telangana, which was dormant for sometime Two photo journalists and two constables were injured in stone pelting.Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the agitators.As the funeral procession passed by the residences of TDP leader E Dayakar Rao and minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, the agitators threw stones again.They also pelted a hotel belonging to TDP Rajya Sabha member Gundu Sudharani and damaged glass panes and threw stones at TDP founder NT Ramarao’s statue near the SP’s office.The body of Naik was placed at the martyrs’ memorial and floral tributes were paid. Later, it was shifted to Veera Reddy tanda of Aswaraopalle in Raghunathapalli mandal, around 70 km from Warangal.Naik’s body was buried in his native Veera Reddy tanda on Sunday evening.TRS floor leader E Rajender, deputy floor leader T Harish Rao, Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Kollapur MLA Jupally Krishna Rao, Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar, former MP Vinod Kumar, TRS district party president Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, Telangana political JAC convenor Kodandaram, district convenor Papireddy and others paid tributes to Naik in Warangal.Kodandaram termed Naik’s suicide as a “political encounter”. He held TDP and Congress leaders responsible for the death. He appealed to the youth not to commit suicides. Nagam Janardhan Reddy wanted the government to register a case against TDP leader E Dayakar Rao for the death.Naik’s father Nama Naik lodged a complaint with the Subedari police stating that chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy was responsible for the death of his son.He told police that Gandra made a statement after the recent bypolls that there was no Telangana sentiment. Hurt by the remarks Bhojya committed suicide, Nama Naik stated in the complaint.Subedari SI Ravi Kumar said that he received the complaint and registered a case against Venkata Ramana Reddy. Meanwhile, the one-day bandh protesting against the death of Naik was complete and peaceful. RTC buses did not ply and even road side pawn shops were closed.
