Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on Saturday demanded a CBI probe into the Muzaffarnagar violence, saying the truth should be uncovered to preserve the secular fabric of the country.
RLD Legislative Party leader Dalveer said his party leadership was of the opinion that if the truth behind these riots was not uncovered, the future of the country's secular fabric stood endangered.
The RLD leader alleged there was evidence suggesting that the riots were orchestrated with the nefarious objective of polarising votes along communal lines.
The government machinery was deliberately rendered toothless on the instruction of their political masters, he alleged. "It was a fixed match between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP for polarising the Muslim and Jat votes," he said.
Dalveer said the net gainer in this exercise had been the BJP and ironically SP proved to be a looser because Muslims had seen through its sinister designs.
Stating that several social and religious organisations of Muslim community were in favour of a CBI probe, he said if SP had a clear conscience it should not shy away from a CBI inquiry.
Dalveer said his party would write to the UP Chief Minister seeking permission to visit riot-hit villages.
Union Minister Ajit Singh was planning to meet Muslim leaders from different political parties for touring the affected villages and spreading the message of peace and goodwill, he said, adding the state government should not delay in granting permission for these visits.
