THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former birth and death Registrar of Kottayam District, M Mathai on Monday produced before the CBI court here the birth certificate of Sari, the victim of Kiliroor case. The court accepted the document and marked it as an evidence in the case. Mathai, a witness in the case, had produced the certificate when he appeared before the court for the examination of his statements. In the certificate, the date of birth of Sari was recorded as October 7, 1986, which clearly showed that she was still a minor when she was raped, which had eventually led to her death. Mathai also stated in the court that the certificate was issued on October 15, eight days after Sari’s birth. The court also examined the statements of Sivasankaran Nair, the brother of Sari’s father Surendran. He stated that he was not at home, when the accused took Sari from his house to Kumali and raped her. She never returned after that. The CBI court, on Wednesday will examine the statements of nine more witnesses, including Dr Monica Bannerjee of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, who conducted the DNA tests of the accused.
