New Delhi: It should be a no contest. In one corner is a multiple grand slam champion who has won the Australian Open thrice already. On the other hand is a 22-year-old Russian having reached the finals of a grand slam for only the second time - so most people think that a tenth grand slam for Serena Williams should be a cakewalk. But will it?
"Well, Safina's playing well. She seems to never die. She's doing a great job and she's going to be a tough opponent. She obviously wants to win. She's playing amazing, and she wants to win a Grand Slam and go for the glory. So, you know, this is just one more match. She's obviously clearly extremely fit," Serena said..
Although she has been a pro for the last nine years, it has only been in 2009 that the full extent of Safina's talent came to the fore - she has reached number three in the rankings.
Safina has fought her way to three three-set matches at this year's tournament and winning this trophy would be extra special. Her brother Marat was a champion in Melbourne in 2005 and is known to celebrate with some gusto.
"He (Marat) has brough some Vodka, but I am not drinking any alcohol. The most you will see me drinking is some pure water. I don't drink so much. Maximum I can drink is maybe glass of wine. I don't drink any alcohol," says she.
Serena and Dinara have faced-off six times now and Serena has won five of those times, including a 2007 French Open match, but come Saturday, she will have her hands full.
