Sfaxien fire French coach after African cup final loss

TUNIS (Reuters) - French coach Pierre Lechantre has lost his job with CS Sfaxien one day after the Tunisian club were beaten in the African Confederation Cup final, the club said on Monday. Lechantre departed on Sunday after Sfaxien lost 3-2 at home on Saturday to FUS Rabat of Morocco in the second leg of the final in the southern Tunisia coastal town. The first leg in Morocco's capital had ended goalless. Sfaxien's decision mirrored that of Tunisian club Esperance, who fired their coach Faouzi Benzarti days after they lost in the final of the African Champions League last month. Lechantre, 60, is a former national coach of Cameroon, Qatar and Mali and coached at clubs in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.
