New Delhi: Exiled former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's wife Kulsoom underwent knee surgery at the Fortis Hospital on Tuesday. The knee-replacement surgery on 56-year-old Kulsoom was performed by Dr Ashok Rajgopal.
Kulsoom was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. Kulsoom has stood firmly behind Nawaz Sharif, who was deposed by Pervez Musharraf, then Army chief, in October 1999.
Sharif along with his family was sent to Saudi Arabia under an understanding that he reached with Musharraf.
When contacted, Fortis Chairman Dr Shavinder Mohan Singh said: "Patient information is confidential and we do not comment on it."
However, hospital sources said the operation was carried out successfully on Tuesday and she was recuperating. Kulsoom had not accompanied Sharif when he returned to Pakistan last month.
Sharif was bundled out from the airport back to Saudi Arabia within hours of his arrival.
