The Madhya Pradesh government sounded an alert in the districts bordering the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, after confirmation of avian influenza (bird-flu) in that state. In a directive to all collectors of districts bordering Chhattisgrah, the MP government advised them to take all precautions to check the spread of the virus in their respective areas, official sources said.
They were also directed to send samples of birds which died suddenly to laboratories for examination. Officials were directed to keep an eye on poultry farms, keep sufficient stock of medicines, kits and other necessary machines to deal with any emergency, sources said. They were also asked to keep a watch on poultry products being transported from the neighbouring state, sources said.
