BANGALORE: Anvesha 2011, a competition showcasing the unique talents of the mentally challenged organised by Cadabam’s Group of Psycho Social Rehabilitation Centres recently concluded in Bangalore.  The centre based from  Shimoga Manasadhara,  Home for Rehabilitation of persons with mental illness bagged the rolling trophy for this year.The valedictory function will be presided by H R Bharadwaj, Governor of Karnataka, Prafulata Bharadwaj, Shobha Karandlaje, Minister, Government of Karnataka and Dr P Satish Chandra, director and vice chancellor, Nimhans on October 22, 6 pm at Hotel Lalit Ashok.Luminaries in the field of Mental Health will also be honoured at the event with the Cadabam’s Distinguished Psychiatrist Award and Cadabam’s Distinguished Mental Health Professional Award.The annual event, Anvesha 2011 provided a unique platform to motivate people with mental illness and showcase their talent, and attracted over 140 enthusiastic and spirited participants from various Rehabilitation Centres from all over Karnataka to participate in the competitions such as Debate, Chess, Pick ‘n’ Speak, Carrom, Skit and One minute to Fame.The end of something also causes a tinge of sadness but a sigh of relief at having been a successful one. Cadambam’s Group’s Anvesha is no different. The event, which is held in an annual basis, acted as a platform to encourage people who suffering from mental illnesses to showcase their talent. The event saw and attracted over 140 people from rehabilitation centres all over Karnataka.Events such as debating, chess, extempore, carrom and skit and one minute to fame were held. ‘Team BPO’ another project, was held in order to study the productivity of people with mental illness in the BPO environment.Starting in mid-2010, the people were put under a month of professional job training. The same ended with the client being more than satisfied with the kind of work the people undertook.M K Saraswathi, Vice Chairman of Cadambam’s Group, says, “Team BPO was immensely successful. Investing in mental health care is not the allocation of funds but about the public being aware about the wide gap.”They have also released ‘Addiction : Reckon Relinquish Recover ‘, a list of articles from psychiatrists, psychologists, family members and recovering individuals. It will be released by P Satish, Director of Nimhans. Rajashekhar, Director Operations of Cadabam’s Group spoke about mental illnesses. He said, “One third of people suffering from major psychiatric problems develop some form of impairment and hospitals cannot do anything. It is high time the country woke up to the situation.”
