CHENNAI: It was a 90-minute nightmare for passengers as well as ticketing staff of Southern Railway as railway passenger reservation system conked off due to technical glitch. The result: serpentine queues outside the counter.“The servers were down from 6 pm to 7.30 pm on Tuesday. The glitch was later rectified. The counters were kept opened for additional 30 minutes so that passengers who were kept waiting could book their tickets,” said a top railway official associated with the passenger reservation system.“Luckily for us the backend came up and the charting could be done,” she said when asked if trains were delayed because of the snag. The Trivandrum division was the worst affected as there was a huge queue of people waiting to book their tickets. In Chennai there were long queues at certain pockets alone, she said. “Whatever we lost was made up,” she added.
