BANGALORE: The state government started 10 engineering colleges with the noble aim of helping poor meritorious students across the state, particularly rural students.
Unfortunately, an all-round neglect - from lack of adequate teaching staff, buildings and infrastructure - characterise these colleges. A report submitted by the Local Inquiry Committee to the VTU exposed the state government for its apathy on providing facilities to the colleges. There are 10 government engineering colleges offering courses in four disciplines computer science, civil, electronics and communication and mechanical engineering.

The old building of SJP College for Women is still in use and practical sessions for civil engineering students are conducted in Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology. To top it all, the college does not have even a computer analyst and programmers, and internet facility in computer labs.
