THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Balagokulam is holding a slew of programmes in connection with Sree Krishna Jayanthi, which falls on August 21, under the title ‘Navaneetham- 5113’.The programmes began on Sunday with Vrikshapooja, as part of which auspicious trees were planted in different parts of the city. A painting exhibition was held at Museum ground.On August 15, a cultural and family meet will be held from 5.30 pm at Theerthapada Mandapam and it will be inaugurated by actor Madhu. August 17 will be observed as Flag Day at 6 am. ‘Gomathapooja’ will be held at 7.30 am. Poojas will be held for the cow at the temples at Attukal, Karikkakom, Sreekandeswaram and some other major temples.While Sree Krishna ‘Katha Pravachanam’ will be held on August 18, ‘Gopikanritham’ will be held at Gandhi Park on August 19. The latter is a dance programme featuring performances by children of various Balagokulams and it will be inaugurated by actress Mallika Sukumaran at 5.30 pm. ‘Uriyadi’ will be held at various centres on August 20 at 4 pm.The Maha Sobhayatra will held on August 21. Rallies from various parts will come together in front of the Ganapathy Temple at Palayam at 4.30 pm and will proceed to the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple.
