Leh Jayenge, a travelogue written by noted film journalist Satyamurthy Anandoor was released on Thursday by Minister for Forests C P Yogeshwar. The book was written based on Anandoor’s visit to Leh and Ladakh as a film journalist during the filming of Yogeshwar’s 2002 film 'Sainika'.“The concept of travel has changed over a period of time. Travelling is looked at as a troublesome act. Of late, more and more people are travelling, and travelogues such as Leh Jayenge have an important place in Kannada writing,” said Agrahara Krishnamurthy, secretary, Kannada Sahitya Academy. “I really like the title given by Anandoor. To me, it is a take on a local folk music form in Madhya Pradesh known as Leja, which is sang during the bride’s move to her husband’s house,” added Krishnamurthy.Anandoor visited Leh 10 years ago along with other Kannada film journalists to watch the filming of Sainika, which was produced by Yogeshwar. While prof U R Anantha Murthy could not make it to the release, he did convey his message to Anandoor.“Apart from the outer eyes, Anandoor has eyes inside, too. His writing holds the power to paint the exact pictures, and can make the reader feel the experiences the author went through before penning it down,” said Prof Anantha Murthy through his message.Anandoor confessed that the visit to Leh was accidental. “I was told that Yogeshwar had booked flight tickets. I never had the intention or interest to see Leh. But my visit has translated into this book,” he said. “It is not easy to write travelogues, with the advent of television where people have already seen most of the places. But writers like Anandoor move away from cliches, and make travelogues an experience. Leh Jayenge can be added to the list of the finest Kannada travelogues,” opined poet M R Kamala. For Yogeshwar, the book is a trip down memory lane. “I had to move away from films due to politics. This book has taken me back to my cinema days.Leh Jayenge has brought back memories of the filming of Sainika,” he said.Leh Jayenge has been published by Press Club of Bangalore (PCB). Principal Secretary of PCB K Sadashiva Shenoy was present during the occaison.
