Tamil Nadu's Agasthiyar Falls Re-opened For Tourists After Tiger Census
Recently, a tiger census was going on at Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, due to which access to areas like Papanasam Agasthiyar Falls was banned.

Tamil Nadu is a region that is known for its unique culture. The land has many natural landscapes that attract a lot of tourists as well. There are many beaches, forests and popular waterfalls that are visited by people. As the summer season is about to begin, many of these spots have been reopened for travellers. One such spot is called Agasthiyar Falls, which is located in Papanasam in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu.

As the waterfall is located near the forest, many wild animals have been spotted in this area as well. Recently, a tiger census was going on at Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, due to which access to areas including Papanasam Agasthiyar Falls and Karaiyar Sorimuthu Ayyanar Temple was banned.

Now that the tiger census has been completed and the areas have been declared safe, the forest department has allowed tourists to visit the Agasthiyar waterfall and the Karaiyar Sorimuthu Ayyanar Temple. Subsequently, the Papanasam forest check post has been opened, and tourists are being allowed to enter from there as well.

After the announcement was made regarding the re-opening of the tourist spot, tourists started coming from various parts of the state to spend their time. The forest department allows them only after checking them properly and has even confiscated illegal substances. Many tourists were caught with liquor bottles, cigarettes and food items. The forest department has also banned the use of plastic in the area and disallowed people to take plastic wrappers near the waterfall.

As per Hindu mythology, Agasthiyar Falls is the place where Sage Agasthya got a view of Lord Shiva in his marriage costume. That is how this waterfall got its name. Earlier last year, the waterfall was closed as the water levels in the area rose due to heavy rainfall in the nearby regions.
