Kolkata: 'Runway', the last film of legendary Bangladeshi film director Tareque Masud, who died in a car accident in August, was screened here today at a film festival being organised by the Cine Central.
The late director's wife Catherine Masud presented the film before the audience at the seven-day carnival International Forum of New Cinema, held annually under the aegis of the Kolkata Film Festival (KFF).
"Tareque is not here with me but I would like to believe that today he is here with us to experience the screening of the film. He lived, dreamt, and I think even died for cinema," Catherine said.
The inaugural film of this silver jubilee edition of the festival was Masud's swansong 'Runway'. "This is the first screening of the film in India," she said.
The film focuses on Islamic terrorism and recruitment of struggling young men by terrorist organisations falsely providing them with an illusion of purpose in life by inducting them into terrorism.
Mrinal Sen and Soumitra Chatterjee, who did not attend the inaugural function of the state-sponsored KFF yesterday, however attended this festival organised by private body Cine Central as chief guests.
West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan inaugurated the festival.
