The repair work in Millers Road as promised by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) should have been completed by now. But with the promise having not been fulfilled, the result is the pathetic condition to which Miller’s Tank Bund Road has been left in. Potholes, broken roads and stones in the middle of the street is what greets you to the road. Miller’s road previously handled all the incoming traffic from Ambedar Veedhi, Queen’s road, Shivajinagar and MG Road. Miller’s Tank Bund Road is now crumbling, literally, with the burden it has been made to carry. A part of the road lies broken on Cunningham Road. A half hearted attempt by the authorities has been made to cover it. The road has submerged to a large extent. As an outcome, traffic jams are seen all the way until the junction near Cunningham Road. This has left motorists and commuters in severe distress. Now as a addition to their woes, the people have to put up with the problems caused by this as well. A motorist on the road, Shailesh, said, “I worry about the damage the road can do to my car. Also most of us tend to avoid the pothole sided part of the road completely which restricts the incoming traffic to the right side of the road.” He added that the authorities’ disregard to the people’s safety is clearly exhibited here.A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus driver, on the condition of anonymity, informed City Express that the risk involved was immense. He remarked, “It is an extremely narrow road. It is difficult to take a turn. Also, the road, if left in the same state for a few more days, is likely to collapse.” Ramesh, a resident of the area, said, “The residents are disconcerted by the trouble that has been caused by the authorities on the pretext of revamp work. Ours was a quiet and a peaceful area and we would really like it back the way it used to be.”The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike engineer for the east zone, Somashekhar, was unaware of any such situation. He said, “I will look into the matter immediately.” The local corporator of the area, Katta Jagadish, said, “I am aware that the Miller’s Tank Bund Road cannot take the amount the traffic that is being re-deviated to it right now. But we do not have a choice but to bear it for the next one month.” He further remarked that upon the completion of Miller’s road work, they would begin work on this parallel road immediately.
