Seoul: The United Nations Secretary-General designate, Ban-ki-Moon said that the UN could go for an additional resolution on North Korea if the country goes for a second nuclear test.
He warned North Korea against a second nuclear test, saying such a move would trigger a "much more serious international response".
"We cannot rule out that possibility that North Korea will conduct a second test, but we hope that North Korea would face the response from the international community and also of reality, and that wouldn't it be more desirable if they acted with more responsibility as a member of the international community," said he.
"We urge again that it's desirable for North Korea to sincerely comply with the UN Security Council resolution and not to take any additional action that would aggravate the situation," he added upon his arrival in Seoul from a trip to the United Nations to accept his appointment as head of the world body.
North Korea's first-ever nuclear test on October 9 sparked global uproar, prompting the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution on Saturday that imposed sanctions while warning Pyongyang not to worsen the situation.
However, the communist state remained defiant, labeling the resolution as a "declaration of war" and vowing to take additional unspecified "physical measures".
Concern about an additional test flared anew this week after US media reported earlier this week that satellite images showed suspicious activity at a suspected North Korean nuclear site.
Ban was to hold talks with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Seoul later on Thursday.
