On the final day, dance drama 'Fana a' by Navtej Johar will be staged followed by a Hindi play.

Panaji, Jan 7 (PTI) Kutiyattam, the oldest surviving Sanskrit theatre of Kerala, is amongst various other art forms that would be showcased during a festival being organised here from February 3 to 5.

Swati Bhise, artistic director of the Sadir Theatre Festival, said that for the first time in the history of Kutiyattam, epic Sanskrit drama Sakuntala would be staged.

"We have worked as a group involving performers, musicians, make-up and costume artists to produce Sakuntala," she said here yesterday.

"You don't need to know Sanskrit to understand the play. You will enjoy it as it unfolds."

Kutiyattam was declared a "masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity" by UNESCO in 2001.

The festival on its inaugural day will have Marathi Play 'Kon Trikon' to be performed by Dr Mohan Agashe and Girish Joshi.

On February 4, a Hindi play, 'Sex, Morality and Censorship,' by Sunil Shanbag will be staged and it will be followed by Sakuntala.

On the final day, dance drama 'Fana a' by Navtej Johar will be staged followed by a Hindi play, 'Adhe Adhure' by Lillete Dubey.

Bhise said this is for the first time that the festival is being held in Goa. "We usually connect Goa only to tourism but there are so many talented artists in the state," she added.
