New Delhi: Don't be happy and friendly to those strange 'Namastes' that you encounter while being stuck in traffic or waiting for someone in your car. After thak-thak gang, now Namaste Gang seems to have set their sight on the streets of the national capital.
Delhi Police recently busted Namaste gangs that were active in West Delhi and were involved in more than 50 cases of gunpoint robberies.
According to the Delhi Police, in the last one year, the gang had become a synonym of terror among the general public and many of operational teams of Delhi were on the trail for this gang.
Delhi Police officials said, The modus operandi of the gang was to first say Namaste to their target or to pass a smile to them and then rob their valuables and cash at gunpoint. They also used to terrorise them by the name of Kanjhawala gang.
Four accused including two Kingpin have been arrested and three firearms, three live cartridges and a button operated knife have been recovered from their possession.
According to DCP west Vijay Kumar, the modus operandi of the accused was to roam around in a group of two, preferably on a two-wheeler. The gang, after zeroing down on a target would ride parallel to the car and smile at the driver.
"They would then wave their hand and say 'Namaste' and would ask them to stop the car. In the meantime, one of them would approach the car from the left side. When the driver would roll down the window pane, they would open the door and get inside the car. In the meantime, the second associate would sit at the rear seat, while the other one would stop his motorcycle/ scooter close to the driver's side door of the car," Kumar added.
That's their way to completely block their target. A senior official said adding that the gang would first introduce themselves to be from Kanjhawala gang and would try to speak Haryanvi before robbing their target of all their valuables.
The four accused have been identified as Nasimuddin (33), Sakawat, Guljar (29) and Naim.
The accused disclosed that they are all close relatives and childhood friends. They all have criminal antecedents and have been to jail many times.
The gang mostly targeted age old people. After the burglary, they used to take the wrong carriageway, so that the victim would neither chase them nor could they note down the number of their vehicles.
The rest of the gang members are yet to be traced and sincere efforts are being made to nab them.
