New Delhi: Heavy rains triggered violent storms, mudslides and floods that swept several provinces in China.

The Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs says nine million people have been affected and around 3,00,000 people are homeless.

Rescue operations have been hampered by bridges that have been swept away, and roads that are now under flood waters.

At least 66 people have been killed in flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rains in China and nearly 600,000 have been left homeless, a state news agency reported on Monday.

The total damage is estimated at 35 million US dollars.
