The District and Sessions Court, Thodupuzha, on Wednesday granted bail to CPM Idukki district secretariat member P N Vijayan, and CPM leader Pavanraj, who are facing the charge of threatening the prime witness in the Aneesh Rajan murder case.
The bail was granted by Judge K Ramakrishnan. The prosecution opposed the bail plea saying that it may affect the investigation of the case.
However, the court rejected the prosecution stand as the police had no clue about the whereabouts of the third accused.The police are yet to arrest another person accused in the case whose details are yet to be found.Public Prosecutor Jolly James argued the case on behalf of the prosecution. M M Thomas appeared on behalf of bail applicants.
The duo had surrendered before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Nedumkandam a few days ago. Vijayan, 59 and Pawanraj, 45 who is the Kalkoonthal local committee member, were taken into police custody and were produced in court and remanded.
The witness Raju, 63, who is a CITU activist, had accused Vijayan and Pavanraj, of issuing him a death threat and asking to give a statement against his will, the police said.The Nedukandam police had registered a case against the CPM leaders under section 195 A IPC.
Raju had made a secret statement before the court following the threat. Aneesh Raj, SFI district vice-president was murdered on March 18, 2012.
