Three persons were killed while two others suffered critical injuries when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Bahrampur area in Ghaziabad on NH-24.
The mishap took place on Tuesday night when the speeding truck hit the divider and then rammed into the auto-rickshaw, which was going to Delhi.
It took almost two hours for the police to pull out the bodies from the auto-rickshaw.
The victims Guddi (29), Anju (27) and Sandeep (30) died on the spot, while the auto-rickshaw driver Dilip and truck helper Abdul were critically injured, they said, adding that after the incident, truck driver fled from the spot.
Both the vehicles fell into a ditch after the collision and they were lifted with the help of crane.
Police said that they are trying to contact the truck owner with the help of its registration number, and the driver will be arrested soon.
