CHENNAI: Amid protests, fasting, cries of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and plenty of people milling in and out of 153, Lattice Bridge Road, a small band of youth managed to sit themselves down and write the lyrics of an anthem to spur on the supporters of the civil society movement. The fact that  they met for the first time at fast venue, adds to the charm of the song. Eshwar Ravikumar, who composed and synthesised the music for ‘Make the Rules’, says, “When we came here, we hardly knew anyone, but there was a very positive vibe from the youth who were fasting.” The sound engineer, who works with an insurance firm, and his partner-in-arms Deepesh A K floated the idea of composing a song dedicated to the spirit of the youngsters involved in the movement. Within a couple of hours, students Manmeet Kaur, Achalla Abhishek and CA-in-the making Chiranjeev Singh were chewing the ends of the pen writing the lyrics for their song. “We decided that it would make most sense if it were in Hindi, because that’s the language that most of us were most comfortable in,” says Eshwar. Once the lyrics were done by 8 pm on Friday, Eshwar and Deepesh hit their bedroom studio to work on the music. By dawn, the tune was recorded, marvels Deepesh who lent the lead vocals. The female vocals were done by Meera Manoharan, currently in the US, via internet. The rough version of the song was first played at the venue on Sunday. On Tuesday evening, with a fully mastered version, appreciation is pouring in from every quarter.
