Currently, each society has its own guidelines to fix minimum wages. Because of this decision, workers in industries run by cooperative societies across the state would get uniform salaries without any discrimination between men and women.

This decision would help thousands of workers in CAMPCO, Karnataka Milk Federation and other societies.

It is suggested in the notification to file objections, if any, to the secretary of the Labour Department by October 22 and the objections received after the stipulated time would not be accepted.

The Labour Department has divided the entire state into three zones and fixed the minimum wages from secretary/manager to the cleaner of vehicles, informed the notification.

The wages have been incorporated into the state average consumer sensex points of 4,624. If the points cross 4,624, the worker should be given 4 paise dearness allowance per day and this should be done once in a year.

Based on the previous year’s consumer points, DA would be calculated. As per the notification, if men and women exercised equal work, they should be given equal pay.

If the existing salary is more than the minimum wage fixed, the existing salary should be given. Trainees should be given  75 per cent of salary given to regular employees.

The notification also said that if the labourer worked for more  than the fixed hours of the day, they should be given double the daily wage.
