Lucknow: Close on the heels of alleged rape of a minor inside a police outpost in Badaun, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday decided to impart training of "good behaviour" to its personnel who have direct interaction with people.
"As complaints of misbehavior by policemen are coming, we have decided to impart training of good behavior to them. Initially we will train policemen from Noida and Lucknow districts and if it became successful it would be extended to all police training schools," Director General of Police (DCP), A C Sharma told reporters in Lucknow.
He said that IG, Lucknow Zone Subhash Chandra has been entrusted with the task of preparing training module with the help of university sociologist and psychologists in this regard.
"The course curriculum has not been decided yet but we are emphasising on lectures on good behaviour by professors, journalists and people from different walk of lives," the DGP said adding that after completion of the training an online test would also be taken from the policemen.
And those, who could not clear the test would be asked to undergo the training again, he said adding that mainly constables, head constables and sub-inspectors, who have direct interaction with the public would be given this training.
When asked about harassment by policemen during checking, the DGP said a circular has been issued to concerned officials not to put unnecessary barriers for checking and in the days to come besides senior officials, team of anti-corruption department would be asked to carry out
surprise checks.
"If during checking, harassment of common man was found by policemen, action will also be taken by circle officer and ASPs deployed in those respective areas", he said.
