A rape victim - bleeding profusely - was reportedly denied a stretcher in a government hospital in Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh. As her condition deteriorated, a policeman and one of her family members were seen carrying her from one ward to another without a stretcher.
Sources said, the girl was overpowered by a youth in a nearby field close to her house in Lakhimpur and was raped repeatedly.
The girl narrated the incident to her family members and a case was lodged in the local police station.
"My daughter had gone out to the fields, where she was raped. She was bleeding profusely. We are waiting for her to regain consciousness to identify her perpetrators," victim's mother said.
She was taken to a government hospital where the staffs 'refused to assist' her. The girl was bleeding and screaming due to pain.
The matter drew the attention of the senior district officials and a probe has been ordered.
"We have asked the Chief Medical Officer to look into the issue with required medical attention," the District Magistrate said.
