Vacancies mar development

PHULBANI: Vacancies in various administrative officer posts in Kandhamal district have hampered development works. Of the 14 crucial posts lying vacant in the officers’ category,  the Additional District Magistrate (rehabilitation) tops the list. It has been lying vacant from October 2009. Another  important post of District Development Officer has been vacant from January 2003. Two deputy collector posts out of the five sanctioned for the district are also vacant.Similarly, in Balliguda sub-division the post of Officer on Special Duty (Land Records) has been vacant from July last year besides that of Revenue Officer. Till date no posting has been made in the two Leave Reserve Officer posts in Balliguda Sub-Collector’s office since 2007.Besides tehasildar posts in Phulbani, Phiringia and  G.Udaygiri and three Additional Tehasildar posts in Balliguda, Phulbani and G.Udaygiri have also been vacant since 2010. Due to the vacancies in the tehasildar and additional tehasildar posts, general public is finding it hard to avail of residential, income and other essential certificates.The posts of District Inspector in Phulbani and Balliguda education district are also vacant after the retirement of both the officers. The posts are being managed by two headmasters. Sources said all the posts are lying vacant either due to non-posting or non-joining of the officers posted.
