CHENNAI: DMDK leader Vijayakant has challenged a resolution passed by the State Assembly on February 2, suspending him from participating in the proceedings for 10 days. When the writ petition came up before Justice S Rajeswaran on Wednesday, the Government Pleader took notice for the Speaker. The judge posted the matter for hearing on March 3 to enable the counsel for the Speaker and the Assembly Secretary to argue on the maintainability of the plea as also on the petition seeking a stay on the resolution. His main prayer was to declare the resolution as unconstitutional and illegal. He submitted that by virtue of the suspension, he could not function as an MLA and Leader of Opposition.
