CHENNAI: Welcoming the verdict of the Supreme Court on implementation of Samacheer Kalvi, Leader of the Opposition, Vijaykanth, on Friday urged the AIADMK government to evolve a “genuine” Uniform System of Education (USE) by creating necessary infrastructure facilities since there has been widespread suspicion among the students on whether the system evolved by the DMK regime would help them.Students in urban areas complained that the lessons they studied in fourth standard appeared in USE textbooks meant for the eighth standard. On the other hand, the students hailing from rural areas complained that even the present fourth standard textbooks for USE were very tough for them.“As such, if public examinations are conducted as per the USE syllabi, only urban students can score high marks while the rural students can’t. I don’t know how such a situation would render social justice to the rural students. Only when rural schools are provided with all facilities, the students from these areas can compete with urban students when examinations are conducted as per the syllabi”, Vijaykanth said.Prepare BPL ListThe Tamil Nadu government should prepare a list of people who fall below poverty line so that many welfare schemes could reach the poor, he said. Since the number of unemployed youth kept going up every year, the government should take steps to provide vocational training to the youth to resolve the unemployment problem.Since the Women’s Self Help Groups were used for political purposes during the DMK regime, thousands of members working with the NGOs had been removed from these groups. The government should take a fresh survey about these groups, he said.The onus of monitoring of these groups should be transferred from the Municipal Administration Department to the Social Welfare Department, he said.
