BANGALORE: Noted environmentalist and Chipko Movement leader Sunderlal Bahuguna gave a clarion call to protect nature for long term survival. Speaking at the International Ozone Day celebration organised by Seshadripuram First Grade College here on Friday he said, “In the name of development, we are killing nature. We are not looking towards long term sustainability.”“The nature is not inherited by anyone of us, hence we do not have the rights to destroy it. If the natural destruction goes on at this rate than very soon our vegetation is going to turn into desert” he added.U R Rao, Chairman, KSTA and former chairman, ISRO, said, “Human beings are causing natural degradation for personal greed . Where one can reach a place by walking, they use vehicles, thereby increasing the pollution level. With no physical exercise, people themselves are making their body a sugar factory.”Meanwhile, Suresh Heblikar, Environmentalist, Dr H Honne Gowda, CEO and Member Secretary, KSTA also expressed their concern over the depletion of ozone layer.To mark the day various events-seminar, painting, sketching, spot talk and screening of documentary shows on the environment conservation theme were organized starting from Wednesday. Around 600 students participated in the green rally which was flagged off on Friday by Bahuguna.
