West Bengal's Nadia District Prepares To Host 111-foot Idol For Durga Puja 2024
Sources stated that previously, the tallest Durga Idol was made in Kolkata. The height of that idol was around 88 feet.

Every year, the state of West Bengal lights up during Durga Puja with great pomp and joy. Thousands of large massive pandals are made every year for four days to celebrate the biggest cultural festival of Bengal. Artisans from different parts of the country are brought to grade the pandals. It is said that the ‘City of Joy’ looks most beautiful during this time. The streets are filled with lights with millions of people gathering in the pandals and being part of the grand festival. Every year some unique pandals emerge that often make headlines. With only 96 days left for the grand festival, preparations have already begun across Bengal. As per recent reports, the tallest fibre Durga idol is being crafted in the Kamalpur area of Ranaghat, Nadia district.

The reports further stated that the work to craft the Durga Idol started around three months ago. The primary work of the Durga idol has already been completed. Now, the main work, with fibre, will begin soon. According to the artisans working to craft the idol, the height of the Durga idol will be around 111 feet. They further mentioned that the height may increase slightly after the full work is completed. Around ten skilled artisans are reportedly working to craft the massive idol.

Sources state that previously the tallest Durga Idol was made in Kolkata. The height of that idol was around 88 feet. This year, the Nadia district is set to break the record with a 111-feet-tall Durga idol. Despite achieving such a milestone, the public could not see that one as it was closed due to massive crowd pressure and stampede. The organisers of Ranaghat have said that they have planned accordingly keeping the incidents of Kolkata in mind. They mentioned that the puja will be held in a vast open space to address the crowd problem. This year, the celebration of Durga Puja will start on October 9 and continue till October 13.
