New Delhi: What was the equation between slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan and his brother Pravin?
While many know that the brothers had parted ways owing to skirmishes, a letter written by Pramod to Pravin days before he was allegedly shot dead by Pravin shows his attempts at a possible reconciliation.
The letter written 10 years ago was produced in a Mumbai court on Monday and its contents were read out by special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
The letter – where Pramod assures Pravin that the latter was always welcome at the former's household despite having left their joint family - showed Pravin was angry with the rest of the family, Nikam argued.
Written in 1986, a year after Pravin’s marriage in 1986, reads thus: "come what may, doors of my house would be always open for you. You are the first of the flock to fly out of the nest. Soon two daughters will also be leaving this house (getting married). "When you (Pravin) were 11 and our father passed away, I remember you running upto me. 15 years on, when you are flying out, I wish the circumstances were different. If mother was not ready to stay with you, it was not my fault. Afterwards, you had been very egoistic and stopped talking to me for no reason. After all these years of living together, I failed to figure you out. Anyway, let bygones be bygones.”
The letter was seized by police from Pravin's house after his arrest for shooting Pramod on April 22 last year. Additional Sessions Judge S P Davare also concluded recording of Pramod’s wife Rekha's testimony on Monday.
PTI reports the defence started with her cross examination, which would continue on March 30. Rekha Mahajan was accompanied by daughter Poonam, brother Gopinath Munde's wife Pradnya, his two daughters and BJP leader Prakash Mehta. Pravin's wife Sarangi and son were also in the court.
Pravin has pleaded `not guilty' for charges of murdering Pramod Mahajan.
