New York: Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Aditya Datt's maiden directorial venture Ashiq Banaya Aapne have been nominated in three categories for the Bollywood Music Awards based on the votes polled by the people of Indian origin in the US, Canada and the Caribbean.
Vasundra Das and Mahalaxmi Iyer have been nominated for the Best Female Signer award for their songs in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.
Alka Yagnik for her song Kyo Ki Itna (Kyo Ki) and Shreya Ghoshal for Parineeta song Piya Bole are the other nominees in the category.
In the Best Pop Singer-Female category, veteran singer Asha Bhonsle (Cha Cha Cha) has been nominated with Shubha Mudgal, Falguni Phatak, Sunali and Gauri Saksena.
Sonu Nigam is nominated in the Best Song category for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Best Male Singer category for Just Chill in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya.
Kailash Kher has also been nominated in both the categories for his song Oh Sikander (Corporate). He will also compete for the Best Pop Singer award.
Rang De Basanti, Parineeta, Omkara and Corporate have been nominated in two categories each.
Five top favourites based on votes polled have been nominated for each category for the awards which will be presented on November 4 in Atlantic City.
Announcing the nominations yesterday, Chief Executive Officer of Bollywood Awards, Kamal Dandona, said that popular singers and performers from India, Pakistan and the Caribbean as also second generation Indian Americans would showcase their talents at the award ceremony.
Among those vying for the Best Music Director Award are A R Rahman (Rang De Basanti), Vishal Shekhar (Bluffmaster), Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna), Himesh Reshammiya (Aashiq Banaya Aapne) and Shantanu Moitra (Parineeta).
