Workshop on Pattachitra begins

BANGALORE: Speaking at the art workshop on Pattachitra, H K Kejriwal, vice-chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan said that art started from 5 BC with stone carvings and cave paintings. He opined that art should be given prominence and popularised as it is not getting due recognition in recent times. Kejriwal said, in New York, there are more than 65 private museums. “They give a lot of importance to art and it is chosen as a profession too,” he added. The workshop has been organised under the guidance of painter and national awardee Rabindra Nath Sahu. ‘Pattachitra’ is a unique style of traditional painting in Orissa. Artist H G Vasudev inaugurated the workshop.
