KOCHI: A large disparity exists in the society in terms of the opportunities given to youngsters not only in the field of education, but also in other aspects of life, said T K A Nair, Adviser to Prime Minister. He was speaking at the ‘Rajagiri-In Pursuit of Excellence Lecture 2012’ held at Rajagiri Vidyapeetham here on Saturday. “Youngsters have the vigour and enthusiasm to face life’s challenges to bring out their full potential. But thousands of youngsters are denied the opportunity to do so,” Nair said. “One must always remember that there is always something more to learn, no matter whatever position the person is in. Humility, compassion, sincerity and responsiveness are the basic characteristics that give everybody an equal chance to succeed.Effective working of a system requires participative decision- making. One must always be open to new information and suggestions.” When asked his views on the anti-corruption movement, he said that the Parliament, being the representative of the collective will of the people, will take the final decision on the matter. “Most of the people who ‘support’ the movement are either partially or fully unaware of what the Lokpal Bill is all about. The image that is being portrayed is such that all politicians are corrupt and the opposing team is the symbol of purity. Like any other group of people, politicians too are a mixed class of people. Anna Hazare is a great person and I am too small to comment on him,” he added.
