The ongoing India Couture Week 2016 has left the onlookers grasping for breath as it’s simply getting better and bigger with each passing day. The third day of the fashion extravaganza had creations from the likes of Rimple and Harpreet Narula, Reynu Taandon and Rahul Mishra on the line-up.
Divya Khosla Kumar, who has been a model herself, turned a Rajasthani bride for the designer Reynu Taandon. The actress-filmmaker was dressed in red choli and a heavily embroidered lehenga adorned with gota. She upped her look with a big nose ring and the traditional Rajashtani maang tika. Taandon’s line titled ‘Kamangari’ recreated the lands of Rajasthan with a soulful background music including ‘Kesariya balam..’ and ‘Mohe pi ki najariya..’. Her collection comprised of colourful lehengas and exquisite anarkalis.
In another stunning showcase, Yami Gautam turned a midnight bride for the designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula. She was welcomed with loud cheers and whistles as she sauntered down the ramp in the blue and gold lehenga from the duo’s collection ‘Hiraeth’. From regal cloaks to sheer robes; the collection explored a diverse range. The colour palette depicted a transition from day to night with shades swiftly flowing from ivory to earthy and midnight blue. There was a riot of motifs on the ramp; peacocks, monuments and floral dominated the collection. While addressing the media persons after the show, Yami expressed her happiness and said she felt more beautiful wearing this outfit. “I’m very happy. I carried a fort on my shoulders. They have always surprised us. I didn’t have to do anything. I feel so stunning and beautiful; it’s so effortless. It’s not just an actress’ delight but any girl’s delight to wear this”.
What set apart this show from the rest was the intriguing choice of background music. Instead of the usual rhythms, the duo opted for Amrita Pritam’s Punjabi poetry recited by Gulzar which indeed casted a magical spell.
Rimple and Harpreet’s show was followed by Rahul Mishra’s enigmatic line-up showcasing a completely hand-woven range. The award winning designer nailed the modern-day bride’s look with ensembles that came as a breath of fresh air on the ramp. Inspired by German biologist Ernst Haecke’s work ‘Kunstformen der Natur’, the creator experimented with soothing shades of indigo, celadon green, pastel and earthy tones like brown. When asked about why he didn’t choose a Bollywood celebrity to close his show, Mishra said, "Bollywood is amazing and inspirational.. Then the attention goes to just one outfit. But I spent a lot of time on the 36 ensembles I showcased today...so I want the entire attention to go on them”.
The 5 day extravaganza will come to an end with the ace designer Rohit Bal showcasing his ensembles on Sunday at an off-site location.
