Sufiyan, who allegedly threw off a 19-year-old women from a Lucknow building for ‘refusing to convert to Islam’, was arrested after an encounter. Officials said a bullet hit his leg.
According to additional DCP West Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, nine teams of police were engaged in search of the accused in Lucknow, of which three teams were camping in Delhi, Rajasthan and national capital region. On Friday afternoon, the surveillance team found Sufiyan’s location at the Power House intersection near Jogger’s Park in Dubagga.
As the officers went ahead to arrest him, Sufiyan opened fire. In retaliation, the cops shot and a bullet hit Sufiyan in his right leg. He has been sent to Lucknow’s KGMU’s trauma center for treatment.
The accused Sufiyan and victim Nidhi Gupta (19) lived in the same locality in Sector H, Basant Vihar, under the Dubagga police station limits. Nidhi was a trained beautician and the two were allegedly in a relationship for the past few months.
Nidhi’s mother Laxmi Gupta said in her complaint that Sufiyan was allegedly forcing her daughter to convert due to which tensions had already cropped up between the couple. Gupta alleged that her daughter had not been talking to Sufiyan for the past few days owing to his pressure for converting to Islam and entering into a ‘nikah’ with him.
