11 Spinoff Titles That are as Awesome as the Original
Bates Motel, Fargo, Better Call Saul and The Mandalorian are some of the series titles that have made it possible for network heads and producers to look at spinoffs as lucrative ideas.

Spinoffs have really gained momentum. Now, studio owners and creative heads are greenlighting projects where possible spinoffs and parallel entertainment ventures can emerge. It banks on the idea of familiarity and gives opportunity to the viewers to stick to a popular franchise even after the originals have lost steam or novelty.

Here we are looking at some of the movie and TV show spinoffs that have truly lived up to the names of their parent ventures.

Fargo

Originating from Coen Brothers’ Fargo film, the TV series of the same name has been successfully recreating the themes of dark comedy, quirky characters, violence and the strange world of coincidences in its four seasons till now. Even though the popularity of the show has debatably waned off steadily, it continues to reel in viewers with the promise of the thrill element.

The Mandalorian

The Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian has truly outdone the popularity of the famous and beloved movie franchise with just two seasons out, and more to come. It has an immersive soundscape and terrific action choreography that serve as hooks for the viewers. Plus point is, it does not refer back to Star Wars much and fresh viewers can instantly connect.

Bates Motel

While many still think that Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is to be untouched, the makers of Bates Motel rightfully thought otherwise and built layers upon the enigma of Norman Bates and Norma Bates in this thriller. While it references back to Psycho for familiarity and as an ode, the multiple new characters, settings, dark and cold ambience and solid performances reel us in instantly and keep us engrossed.

Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse

The animated Spider-Man film Spiderverse is a fitting match to the superhero franchise. The web slinging hero in his teenage makes for an interesting character to explore and build on. Its supplemented with great animation work and good humour in writing.

Better Call Saul

To think Breaking Bad could be outperformed by a spinoff was unthinkable. But Bob Odenkirk does it as he gives us his trickster character Saul Goodman and his origin story in Better Call Saul. Like its parent series, BCS has beautiful cinematography and serious depth in writing and characters and you can’t help but binge watch it through and through.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The magical universe of Harry Potter made way for the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Although the popularity of the two worlds cannot be compared as yet, the Fantastic Beasts universe is trying its best to live up to the rep of the original. When compared for the special effects finesse, the two franchises seem to be closer to each other if not on the characterisation front.

Fear The Walking Dead

If The Walking Dead franchise unleashed a never-ending zombie phenomenon on primetime TV, its spinoff Fear The Walking Dead is certainly living up to the name. If you enjoy intense drama, violence and half-dead creatures swarming around on streets like humans never existed, FTWD is the show for you. Plus points to the team for highly realistic and special effects make up.

Logan

Even though superhero universes have dozens of spinoffs and characters sequels and prequels, Logan is one of a kind movie to take a back seat on the action front as it gives a humane touch to beloved Wolverine. Hugh Jackman deftly juggles between intense anger and lust for violence and affection.

The Hobbit

A worthy supplement to the Lord of The Rings franchise, The Hobbit does wonders on the visual effects front. It cuts down on the LOTR’s epic runtime, but delivers entertainment and emotion nonetheless. An adventure to embark on certainly.

Birds of Prey

If the highly unimpressive Suicide Squad movie did one thing right, it was to make way for Harley Quinn to enter the world of DC superheroes. With Margot Robbie taking charge of the department of crazy as Harley, this one is set to go places as Birds of Prey has proved with its first outing.

Hobbs and Shaw

If one finds themselves getting tired of The Fast and Furious Franchise, which is highly unlikely, mercenaries Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw will be upping the ante on action, adventure and adrenaline rush with the Hobbs and Shaw franchise, which is off to a flying start in 2019, with the promise of more adventures of the two to follow.
