Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is currently winning the hearts of audiences with his latest film Mr & Mrs Mahi. This Sharan Sharma- directorial stars Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role apart from Rao. The film has entered Rs 50 crore club in terms of box office collection. The film was expected to give huge returns at the box office but the current collection seems to retrace the path of Rajkummar Rao’s previous films – a semi-hit. The actor has been active in Bollywood for 14 years now. During this time, the actor has won a National Award, Filmfare Award and many other accolades for his performance in films like Shahid, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton. He has worked in over 30 films till now but only one of them collected Rs 100 crore while others were either average, semi-hit or flops.
Rajkummar Rao started his film career with the film Love Sex Aur Dokha as a lead character in 2010. It was directed by Dibakar Banerjee. His performance was widely appreciated by the critics and audience. This resulted in numerous offers from the acclaimed directors and producers. The following year, he starred in semi-hits like Ragini MMS, Gangs Of Wasseypur 2, Talaash, Shahid, Kai Po Che and Queen. With films like Shahid, Citylights, Trapped and Aligarh, the actor established himself as one of the most talented actors in Bollywood.
More than semi-hits, the actor also has a bag full of commercially unsuccessful films like Boyss Toh Boyss Hain, Dolly Ki Doli, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, Behen Hogi Teri, Fanney Khan and many more. He was in the wait of one superhit film that eventually came in 2018.
He starred in the horror thriller Stree alongside Shraddha Kapoor and Aparshakti Khurana. It was directed by Amar Kaushik. Made under a budget of Rs 30 crore, the film earned Rs 180 crore worldwide. His chemistry with Shraddha Kapoor in the film was loved by the critics and the audience. He will be soon in the sequel of this film which is set to release on August 15. It will star the same cast. It will be produced under the banner of Maddock Films. The actor will be eying for a return with this film.
