Efforts have been going on for many years to make Marathi a classical language. In the wake of the assembly elections, the central government has recently approved the demand to give the status of classical language to Marathi. Along with Marathi, Pali, Assamese, Prakrit, and Bengali have also been given the status of classical languages by the Centre. Many artists also expressed their views on this. Famous actor and director Pravin Tarde reacted to this, which has been widely discussed and is garnering everyone’s attention.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Pravin Tarde said, “Our Marathi language was already classical, but now the status of classical language has been given by the central government. I welcome this decision taken by the central government. Now the Marathi language will get the status of elite, and now besides this, it is elite; the appreciation here is also elite.”
He further said, “The Marathi language has now got the elite status. Saints have done a lot of work for the Marathi language. Marathi is the saint tradition. Annabhau Sathe’s literature is in Marathi. So even if you want to give insults, give them in Marathi. They are classy. So now everyone knows from this day.”
Lastly, he also added, “Learn other languages too but love your language. Today, Marathi has got government status, so I thank all those from Pune to the central government who worked hard to give it.”
Pravin Tarde is an Indian actor, film director, and screenwriter working in Marathi cinema, best known for his Marathi films Deool Band, Mulshi Pattern, and Sarsenapati Hambirrao.
The actor-director was last seen in Dharmaveer 2. This Marathi-language biographical political drama film is written and directed by Pravin Tarde and produced by Umesh Bansal and Mangesh Desai under the banners Zee Studios and Sahil Motion Arts. The film will star Prasad Oak and Kshitish Date in the lead roles. It is a sequel to the 2022 film Dharmaveer.
Earlier, the film was scheduled to release in theatres on August 9. Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, the release has been postponed to September 27.
