The impact of the Hema Committee findings has reached the Tamil cinema industry as well.

The Nadigar Sangam, officially known as the South Indian Artistes’ Association, has organised a committee to hear complaints about sexual harassment in the Tamil film industry. Actress Rohini has been appointed as the chairperson of the committee. According to sources, the internal complaints committee, which was created in 2019, has been enhanced. Recently, Rohini encouraged women to file complaints. The impact of the Hema Committee findings has reached the Tamil cinema industry as well. In the recent 68th general meeting of the Nadigar Sangam, which was held at Kamarajar Auditorium in Teynampet, Rohini asked not to talk about sexual issues in the film industry in front of the media. The actress stated that women in the film industry who have issues should address them before the committee rather than in front of the media.

She said, “The Nadigar Sangam will ensure all measures to ensure legal aid to the victims of violence. A separate email and phone number will be arranged for the internal grievance redressal cell. Complaints can be lodged through this. The complaints will be handed over to the cyber police. If found guilty of sexual assault, the offenders will be banned for five years.”

The meeting was also attended by key figures, including Nadigar Sangam President M Nassar, General Secretary Vishal, Treasurer Karthi, Vice Presidents Ponvannan and Karunas.

Actor Nassar said that an internal complaints committee, created in 2019, has been strengthened, with Rohini appointed as its chairperson. The committee is tasked with addressing and resolving complaints related to sexual harassment, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken against offenders.

Recently, the Nadigar Sangam association decided to make the internal complaints committee more effective during a meeting held last week. This move underscores the organisation’s determination to create a safer and more supportive environment for all members of the film industry.

The Nadigar Sangam’s most recent efforts demonstrate an increasing commitment to combating and eliminating sexual harassment, offering a more accountable and responsive framework for dealing with such severe concerns.
