Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi was released on May 1 and has been earning rave reviews from the film fraternity, fans, and critics. Having said that, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar too cheered for the web series and also applauded Sonakshi Sinha’s performance.
Akshay Kumar took to his Instagram story and wrote, “Watching #Heeramandi, such a grand spectacle!” Speaking of Sonakshi Sinha’s performance, he wrote, “Great going, @aslisona.”
Meanwhile, Heeramandi is set against the backdrop of the pre-Independence era in the 1940s. It explores the cultural reality of a prominent red-light district through the lens of courtesans and nawabs. The series boasts a star-studded cast, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal.
News18 gave Showsha 4.5 stars and wrote, “Bhansali pens a near-perfect screenplay, and it is this rich writing that already forms an impressive foundation for the show. Each character is written with a lot of courage, empathy, and sensitivity. Here, each female character is so well-fleshed out, including those in the periphery, that they all deserve a spin-off of their own.”
Speaking of Sonakshi Sinha’s performance, the review read, “Sonakshi Sinha plays the antagonist in Heeramandi. She is stunning, shrewd, and sardonic. And she fears no one. She single-handedly fights a battle to win justice for her late mother and has no qualms about walking on the path of vices for the same. At the end, the women are all so much more than just tawaifs. Ambition is their eternal companion, and they use their beauty as a weapon to lure men into their beds and, when the right time comes, render them powerless.”
Coming back to Akshay Kumar, the actor is currently shooting for Jolly LLB 3 with Arshad Warsi. Reportedly, in the third installment, Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi will be seen at loggerheads, whereas Saurabh Shukla will reprise his role as a judge. “It’s basically Jolly vs. Jolly, and the entire cast is excited to start shooting for this ambitious film for the Jolly LLB franchise. The team is still contemplating two titles titled Jolly LLB 3 or Jolly vs. Jolly, and a call on the same will be taken closer to the announcement,” a source previously told Pinkvilla.
