The Vizag City Police recently arrested Soumya Shetty, a popular social media influencer and emerging Telugu actress. She is also known as Soumya Killampally. She is suspected of being involved in a gold theft case that occurred on February 23 at Balaji Metro Residency in Dondaparthy. The flat owner, Prasad Babu, a retired employee of the Indian Postal Department, reported the theft of 150 tolas of gold ornaments, prompting a police investigation. The police department gathered fingerprints and scrutinised CCTV footage from the flat. Eleven individuals were initially suspected, leading to the detention and questioning of three suspects, including Soumya Shetty.
Soumya is active on platforms like Instagram. She is an aspiring actress and worked in the film Shivam (2015). Soumya was friends with actress Maunika. Their acquaintance began at a film audition event. As a frequent visitor to Maunika’s residence, Soumya reportedly closely observed her lifestyle and valuable possessions. The police allege that she exploited the family’s trust during these visits. According to authorities, Soumya illicitly accessed the bedroom through their bathroom multiple times, stealing gold ornaments weighing a total of 1 kg. The theft was discovered when Maunika’s family members noticed the missing gold after returning from a wedding. Upon filing a complaint, the Vizag City Police promptly apprehended the accused and registered a First Information Report (FIR) for the gold theft case.
Following the successful execution of her plan to pilfer gold ornaments, Shetty purportedly quickly escaped to Goa. Upon her arrest, Soumya Shetty allegedly admitted to her participation in the theft, leading to the recovery of 74 grams of gold by the police. Nevertheless, she asserted her inability to return the remaining stolen items and purportedly issued threats of ending her own life. The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
