Many felt the lovely song ‘Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’ of Sharat Katariya’s ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ had an amazing tune. And then there were those who couldn’t stop paying attention to its picturisation that went well with the plot, and explained the couple’s sentiments in the most appropriate manner. But the fact that remains is that the song’s lyrics had a fabulous detailing, charm, which could send out a delightful smile to all those who watched it.

After winning massive appreciation for the song, Varun Grover finally joined the ranks of National Awards winners and took home the most prestigious award for Best Lyricist. In an exclusive interaction with IBNLive Movies, Grover said the announcement came as a surprise. “I am very happy to receive this honour. It was only around 11 in the morning that I got to know that that the winners for the main categories were announced. But I had no idea that I would be winning the honour."

Since Grover was being trolled by craziest crickets fans for making a tweet on Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar which quite evidently didn’t go down well with them, he decided to shut his phone. “Since last night I have been trolled on social media and that surprisingly continued till morning. I had no option but to shut my phone and block a few people. But while I scrolled for all the information on National Awards I found my name too. Since it was mentioned in about 10 tweets, I was a bit hopeful."

But did he expect the song to generate such huge interest? “'Moh Moh Ke Dhaagey' became popular because of its run time. Even when we were creating the song with Anu Malik, I knew it would be special. However, there hasn’t been any similarity between the way things happen in the film industry and how they shape up in my personal life. But I would say it has been a fascinating journey to do a niche song that has gained such a huge popularity."

While the song was among the chartbusters, the people who were marketing the film didn’t expect its success. “Bahut achcha hai, par bahut slow hai. Film mei log dekh lengey par alag se chal nahi paega. These were the concerns of those who were marketing the film. But winning National Award means a lot to me. I feel it will make me more confident about my work. I won’t have to compromise – which thankfully I didn’t have to till now."

Even though the film didn’t have a conventional love story, but featured an overweight heroine and a sullen hero, it managed to grab everyone’s attention. “The script of ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ was very novel. Since we had seen several love stories, we wanted something different. And the film offered just that and succeeded in surprising many. It exuded the charm that one would expect from Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor."
