Jodhpur: The "missing" witness in the chinkara poaching cases against actor Salman Khan in Jodhpur has resurfaced claiming threats to his family.
Harish Dulani, the jeep driver who is a key witness in the chinkara poaching cases against Khan, said on Wednesday that he was only lying low because his family was threatened.
“I was scared when my father and mother were threatened. Hence, I decided to shift to another place for a few days," Dulani told CNN-News18 adding that he took shelter with his relatives.
However when asked whether he saw Khan shoot a gazelle, Dulani was not forthcoming. "Jo yaad tha aur bolna tha woh toh maine bol diya (I said what I remembered, and what I had to say)," he said.
During the investigation into the Chinkara poaching case, Dulani had informed the Forest Department of two cases which happened on September 26 and 28 of 1998.
Subsequently, Dulani also got his statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC, following which the star was convicted in 2006 by a lower court.
But on Monday Salman acquitted by the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur which held that the pellets recovered from the animals were not fired from Khan's licenced gun. That Dulani, who was the driver of the jeep that was used by Khan and his co-stars on their alleged hunting mission, was reported missing weakened the prosecution's case against the film star.
