From Studying Law To Doing 150 Films, A Look At Actor Sujit Kumar's Journey

Actor Sujit Kumar, known for his great on-screen presence in the 60s to 90s Hindi movies, had a tragic life. The actor became a close friend of Rajesh Khanna and worked with him in most of the films. Sujit Kumar never played the character of a hero in Hindi movies, however, his onscreen presence made him more prominent than the heroes of the movies he worked in.

Sujit Kumar, born in Chakia, Benares State, British India, worked in almost 150 films Hindi films in his career. He left his mark in the Bhojpuri films as well. He was considered to be one of the most cherished stars of the Bhojpuri movies. In Hindi films, he came to prominence after playing the villain character in the movies. As positive characters did not give him much exposure, he chose to take up the roles of villains in most of the movies.

However, during his acting career, he remained ill several times. Many times he fell on the set suddenly. After ignoring his deteriorating physical condition several times, in 2007, he was diagnosed with cancer. Even after treatment for three years, Sujit Kumar could not be saved. He took his last breath in Mumbai.

Sujit Kumar was a close friend of Rajesh Khanna. For his great acting skills, he received the chance to work with most of the prominent stars of the Hindi film industry. He remains immortal for his roles in movies like Ramanand Sagar’s Aankein (1968), Naya Raasta (1970), Jugnu (1973), Hamrahi (1974), Charas (1976), Dharamveer (1977), Des Pardes, The Burning Train, Kaamchor, Krantiveer, Tiranga and many more. He was part of the film in many movies where Rajesh Khanna played the lead role. Some of these notable movies are Aan Milo Sajna, Haathi Mere Saathi, Amrit, Amar Prem, Mere Jeevan Sathi, Ittefaq and Aradhana.

Sujti Kumar was studying law before his acting career. To quench his interest in acting, he did college plays while studying. In the judging panel, was the famous producer Phani Majumdar, who liked his acting a lot and advised him to become an actor. From then on, the acting career of Sujit Kumar began.
