Colin Jost, known for his work as one of the writers of the popular Saturday Night Live, has been asked to host a new show Pop Culture Jeopardy! Despite being busy in Tahiti for the Paris Olympics at present, Jost has taken on this additional role. Jeopardy! spinoff is part of Prime Video’s latest season. Sony Pictures Television has reportedly said that they are thrilled to have Jost, the Weekend Update anchor, leading this new venture. Pop Culture Jeopardy! will feature some unexpected guests and focus on categories like TV, film, music and sports. It will also be more relatable than the traditional Jeopardy! format. The show will feature team-based competitions, with three contestants forming a team to compete in a tournament bracket.
According to the official website, Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a new twist given the classic quiz show’s answer-and-question format that combines the academic rigor of Jeopardy! with the excitement and unpredictability of pop culture. Show contestants, who will be required to play, will have to be experts in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers, Broadway to MMA and Gen Z to Zendaya. They will have to compete in a tournament-style event for the ultimate grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.
“Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize Pop Culture Jeopardy!” said Suzanne Prete, the president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television. She further elaborated saying that Jost is smart and quick, just like their contestants and they believe that he will be able to “keep up with them while making this new series his own. We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey,” as per Comicbook.
Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios also expressed excitement saying that the team is thrilled to have the SNL writer on board.
Talking about the upcoming show, Suzanne Prete, President of Game Shows at Sony Pictures Television, said that Pop Culture Jeopardy! will be a treat for game show lovers. They can expect to see the teams competing at the highest level of Jeopardy! “Combined with a fresh twist of pop culture Olympics for the mind…it’s going to be a must-watch for long-time viewers and new fans alike,” she added as reported by Comicbook.
