The auditions for Guardians Of The Galaxy had seen many Hollywood A-listers giving it a go. Australian actor Joel Edgerton was among these actors who auditioned to play Star-Lord in Marvel’s film. However, he didn’t get the part and is glad about it. The Dark Matter Star, in a recent interview, revealed the reason behind the failed Star-Lord auditions saying that he could not understand the tone James Gunn, the writer and director of the film, was looking for. The role was later bagged by Chris Pratt who reprised the character in various Marvel movies.
Joel Edgerton, during an appearance at The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, revealed, “I, unlike Chris, didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did.”
Reflecting on how he remained unbothered and instead happy despite the failed audition, the star added, “And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be.”
The impact of the Guardians Of The Galaxy On Marvel needs no introduction. Not only did it lead Pratt to superstardom, but also contributed most to shaping the next Marvel films for a decade. Besides, the brighter colours and unusual tone had a great influence on the lead character of Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi.
The 2014 Marvel movie, Guardians Of The Galaxy, revolves around the ragtag group of space criminals who join hands to fight the antagonist in a bid to save the universe. The lead cast of the film included Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Lee Pace.
James Gunn, currently, is in charge of DC Studios, along with his production partner Peter Safran. Edgerton, on the other hand, is entertaining fans with his appearance in Apple TV+’s Dark Matter. It airs Wednesdays on the platform.
