Actor Kamal Haasan opened up about the massive budget of Indian 2. The film marks the reunion of director S Shankar and Kamal Haasan, 28 years after their 1996 cult vigilante film. At the trailer launch of the film’s Hindi version – Hindustani 2, the Tamil superstar said the film’s budget was impacted severely by the COVID-19 pandemic and an on-set accident. He applauded director S Shankar and the producers for not putting the film on the back-burner.
“The budget was not just decided by the director and the script. Covid decided our budget. Some of the accidents delayed the budget. The tenacity of the producer and the director must be applauded even before the film becomes a hit. It’s very easy to let go, if your hand is paining, you let go. Let me leave this and go to the other one. But They didn’t do that. Not to let go of this child, not to orphan this child was a decision taken by Lyca and Shankar,” Kamal Haasan said.
For the unversed, Indian 2 was announced in 2018. The first phase of shooting started in 2019. However, the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic brought the filming to a halt.
The unfortunate accident on set that resulted in the death of three crew members also put the film on hold for years. Later, the shooting was also postponed due to a clash of opinions between Lyca Productions and film’s director S Shankar. After a long wait and settling all the issues, the filming has finally been completed.
Indian 2 is the official sequel of Indian, which released on May 9, 1996. Indian 2 features a huge cast including Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rahul Preet Singh, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Shankar has also used CGI and body doubles to bring departed actors Vivek and Nedumudi Venu to life on the big screen.
Indian 2 is set to release on July 12. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira.
