Kangana Ranaut Compares Jaya Bachchan's Parliament Name Row To Getting A Panic Attack: 'This Arrogance...'
Jaya Bachchan clashed with Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar over his decision to address her as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan." Kangana Ranaut has reacted to it.

Kangana Ranaut has reacted to actor and politician Jaya Bachchan’s name row. Jaya Bachchan recently found herself at the center of controversy in Parliament. She clashed with Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar over his decision to address her as “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.” The veteran actor strongly opposed being referred to by her husband’s name, leading to a few heated exchanges. She had said, “Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata.”

Talking about this incident in an interview to Fever FM, actor and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut said, “This is a very shameful thing that today, the beautiful differences between a man and a woman, as made by nature, is looked at as discrimination.” Kangana shared her thoughts on the issue, saying that “a man is a man, and a woman is a woman, and their togetherness is something beautiful.” She called the concerns “petty issues” and criticised the direction feminism is taking, saying society is heading in an “ugly direction.”

Calling Jaya Bachchan “arrogant”, Kangana said, “This arrogance hasn’t spared even the beautiful bond within families. Humans should embrace each other and not dissect each other with this sort of harshness. People are simply flaring up with the name coming up like they’re getting a panic attack or something. And when they say, ‘My identity is taken over, I am destroyed’ I just feel sad.”

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut’s directorial release Emergency has been postponed, reportedly due to rising controversies. Kangana Ranaut and Mandi Lok Sabha MP say the film’s approval was “stopped” because CBFC members got “threats.” A new release date hasn’t been set yet. A source close to the CBFC said, as quoted by The Indian Express, that the certification can take time given the sensitive nature of the film. “We have nothing to do with the film’s release date. That has been announced beforehand, before grant of certification,” said a government officer said on grounds of anonymity.

Emergency is a political drama revolving around former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her life. Kangana plays the role of the late politician, and also marks her solo directorial debut. The film also stars Shreyas Talpade as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Mahima Chaudhry as cultural activist and Indira Gandhi’s confidante Pupul Jayakar and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
