Mammootty’s 1986 Classic Aavanazhi Set For Theatrical Re-release This September

These days, a re-release of old films has become a trend. Many popular films have been re-released in theatres recently. According to the latest report, Mammootty’s 1986 film Aavanazhi will soon be re-released in theatres. This Malayalam-language action film is said to be released in theatres on September 12.

Aavanazhi is directed by I. V. Sasi and written by T. Damodaran. The film explores the social and political issues of that time. It stars Mammootty, Geetha, Seema, Sukumaran, Captain Raju, Janardanan, Jagannatha Varma, Innocent, Thikkurisi Sukumaran Nair, Sreenivasan and Sankaradi in the lead roles.

Aavanazhi was the highest-grossing Malayalam film at the time and it was a commercial success. The film was adapted in Kannada as Anthima Theerpu, Tamil as Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupaadu, Telugu as Marana Sasanam and Hindi as Satyamev Jayate.

I. V. Sasi made two sequels—Inspector Balram in 1991 and Balram vs. Taradas in 2006. The film was released on September 12, 1986, in 20 theatres and became a major commercial success. It was the highest-grossing film at the time. The film ran for more than 200 days in theatres in Kerala. Apart from this, all the remakes of the film were also commercial successes.

Aavanazhi is considered one of I.V. Sasi’s best works. The film is the only Malayalam industry hit that features a police officer as the primary character. Inspector Balram, the protagonist, is one of Malayalam cinema’s most famous characters.

However, Mammootty recently appeared in the Malayalam-language action comedy flick Turbo. The film was directed by Vysakh, written by Midhun Manuel Thomas and produced by Mammootty under Mammootty Kampany. The film stars Mammootty in the lead role, with Raj B. Shetty, Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Anjana Jayaprakash, Niranjana Anoop, Bindu Panicker, Dileesh Pothan and Shabareesh Varma in supporting roles.

He will next be seen in the upcoming Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film Bazooka. Deeno Dennis wrote and directed the film, which marks his directorial debut. Mammootty plays the leading role in the film. Dolwin Kuriakose, Jinu V. Abraham, Vikram Mehra and Sidharth Anand Kumar produce the film through their production companies, Yoodlee Films and Theatre of Dreams.
